Apple’s internal document shows iPhone with bigger display is on its way

Apple might have put off launching iPhones with bigger display but it seems unlikely it would be avoidable any longer. While the late Apple co-founder and CEO, Steve Jobs, believed the iPhone’s size and users’ ability to use it with one hand was important, consumers are saying otherwise.\n\nAccording to an internal Apple document made public during the company’s patent infringement lawsuit against Samsung, Apple is worried that its iPhone sales growth is tapering off. The presentation made last year in an offsite meeting to plan for 2014, Apple noticed that while smartphone shipments between 2011 and 2012 grew by 228 million units, all the growth was coming by either smartphones priced under $300 or smartphones priced over $300 but had displays larger than 4-inches.\n\nApple did not compete in any of the segments and had iPhones priced above $300 and the largest display size was 4-inches. This segment actually saw a decline of 22 million units between 2011 and 2012. This was reflected in iPhone’s growth rate as well, which declined when compared to the growth in the overall smartphone market.\n\nOngoing rumors have suggested that Apple is working on not one but two iPhone models that would feature bigger displays. It has been speculated that one of the models could have a 4.7-inch display while the other have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 like 5.5-inch display.\n\nSamsung is counting on Apple to launch the bigger iPhones as it would be a vindication of sorts about Samsung’s inability to innovate. For once, Samsung would be looked at as a trendsetter than a follower.
